Real Man Ethos

Real men possess integrity.

Many people confuse this with simply telling the truth.  That is a large part of it, but it also means being consistent.  This is probably the most difficult for most guys, including myself, to solidify.  Integrity is all about living the truth, both in words and actions.

Real men dwell in reality.

It’s all too easy to get sucked into fantasy.  Video games, porn, junk food, TV, the internet, sex, alcohol, drugs.  They’re all distractions, and often times we find ourselves getting lulled into living that reality rather than reality reality.  Instead of facing real life challenges head on, we cower into make believe worlds.  Just think of an Ostrich and how it buries its head in the sand in the face of trouble.  Don’t you think that’s a pretty stupid strategy?

Real men are bold.

Fortune favors the bold, for it is action that brings about opportunity and “luck.”  Nothing happens in a bubble, and a real man understands that in order to attain what he wants, he has to take a risk or two or three.  This means facing failure, criticism, negative judgement, damnation, scorn, disapproval, and those other “bad” things that most men fear, head on.

Real men take responsibility.

Fuck ups happen.  It’s how we learn.  Real men know this and take responsibility when they make mistakes.  They don’t try and cover it up or blame someone else, or whine about fairness.  Real men raise their hand and simply admit “it’s my fault.”

Real men are unapologetic.

Real men aren’t afraid or ashamed of who they are: sexual animals.  Most men desire pussy (even though some have successfully repressed this desire and confused it with “being gay”).  Real men aren’t sorry for this desire.  They don’t try to hide it or disguise it in any way.  They use it as a driving force to attain what they innately desire.

Real men practice self-control.

Temptation is everywhere, especially the temptation to escape reality via drugs, alcohol, etc.  Real men understand that there’s no eliminating the pulls of daily life and that he must strive to stay on his path.  Even when he slips, which will happen from time to time, he has the power and ability to draw himself back into consciousness.

Real men compete regularly.

Simply put, healthy competition makes one better, even if you lose a lot.  Whether it be in sport, business, or intellect, competition challenges real men to perform at their absolute best in that moment.  In the wild, we’d be competing for food, sex, territory, and essentially, our lives.  This is how Mother Nature works, by allowing the best to rise to the top.  Regular competition feeds this innate desire.
